St. Martin Archeological Museum (0 viewing)
St Martin's high season is mid-December to mid-April. The rainy season brings with it heat and humidity instead of trade winds, so summer can be stifling, not to mention peppered with a hurricane or two from June to November. However, prices drop dramatically, by half at some resorts. Shoulder season is a great compromise, either in November or early December or late April and May.

This worthwhile little museum is nicely presented, with a focus on the Arawak period. Shell amulets, bone artefacts, arrow points and bits of pottery help illustrate the culture of the island's early Amerindian inhabitants.

There are flora and fauna presentations, period photos and historical displays on the French-Dutch divide and the plantation era of sugar and salt production. Signs are in French and English.
